Johann “Das Gespenst”

Johann “Das Gespenst” (“The Ghost”) is the Chief Mechanic on the U-boat U-96, loosely based on the real crew of the U-boat of the same name. He is obsessed with U-96’s engines. During an attack by two destroyers, he develops a temporary mental breakdown. When the boat is trapped underwater, he works valiantly to stop water leaks.
