Agent Smith is a fictional character in The Matrix trilogy, played by actor Hugo Weaving. The main antagonist in the films, Smith is an AI designed to keep order in the Matrix. He possesses superhuman attributes from his ability to bend the rules in the system. In subsequent films, Smith gains the ability to copy himself and take control of the real world as well as the system. Having the potential to destroy both the Matrix and the real world, Smith takes over the Oracle before assimilating Neo and getting deleted as a result.
